Dutch schools, policy and professionalism (gesloten)

I'm curious whether policy might become practice faster in traditional Dutch schools, and if staff are more professional. My child is currently in an "alternative" international school that has its own culture, which is great in many ways, but they don't always do things according to the law. I have brought up a few concerns regarding my child's physical safety and emotional well-being and felt both dismissed and shunned by the staff, who seem to have an attitude of "you're either with us or against us." In other words, they are not comfortable with accountability and resisting parent input. My child is still happy at the school and slowly the staff are making the changes required, but I'm burned out from advocating and the way I've been treated has severely impacted my mental health. I wonder if this would also be the case in a regular school here, as I'm deciding what kind of school my child will attend next year and also whether it would be worth it to switch mid-year. But if all schools are like this, making parents feel uncomfortable and disliked for communicating problems, then it won't matter.

Please start at the beginning, what kind of changes are required?

What things are they doing that are not according to the law ? The Dutch law or the school law ?

I suppose it really depends on the kind of input you are having if the school will like it or not.

But to be honost I’m not sure in general about the Dutch school system. I have only experience with a few of them. I had good contact, but never told them that they needed to change something.

Which concerns do you have at the moment?

If you have to advocate this much just to get them to follow the law, something seems off. However, it’s hard for us to comment on general expectations for other schools if you don’t tell us what your specific issues or concerns are.

En waarom moet deze conversatie in het Engels? Dit is een Nederlands forum. Neem zelf even de moeite om de tekst door Google translate te halen…
